Tourism Studies
RMR undertakes studies and surveys of tourism, and assists in facility development, specialising in tropical, coastal, cultural and eco-and agri-tourism in developing countries. Particular interests of RMR are:
- the use of uniform standards in the development of new tourism products and services without restricting the participation of rural stakeholders;
- the development of unique, authentic and effective national and regional images to facilitate effective international marketing.
Studies and services carried out include:
- Studies for the future non-consumptive use wildlife in the Kenya Mara area
- Studies of Tropical Coastal Tourism trends for the World Bank as part of the Diani Resort Study, and recommendations for marketing image differentiation
- Development of destinations, itineraries and provision of guest lecturers for Swans Hellenic East African wildlife safari programme,
- Developed a tourist destination and facilities for Marsabit County Council, Kenya
- Studies of Kiwaiyu and Dodori areas for up-market tourism use and plans for development of suitable facilities
- Investigation of the potential of the Bushbush National Park, Somalia as a tourist destination with recommendations for future developments
- Two studies (1974, 1991-94) of the social and environmental aspects of tourism in Thailand
